Myth: Dentures always look fake

Reality: dentures made properly today are personalised to suit your face - tooth shape, size, and shade are individually chosen, not a generic default. The old "denture look" comes from poor fit and design, not from dentures as a category.

Myth: You can eat whatever you want immediately

Reality: eating takes some practice, usually settling within a couple of weeks with softer foods first. Most people work back up to a full, varied diet, though some very hard or sticky foods can stay trickier long-term.

Myth: Dentures never need adjusting once you get them

Reality: your gums keep changing shape over time, so a periodic reline is a normal, expected part of denture ownership - not a sign anything was made wrong originally.

Myth: You need a dentist referral to see a prosthetist

Reality: for most denture work, you can book directly with a dental prosthetist without seeing a dentist first. A referral is only relevant if your case involves extractions or implant surgery.

Myth: All dentures are basically the same

Reality: there's a real range - full, partial, immediate, BPS, and implant-retained dentures each suit different situations, with genuinely different materials, processes, and costs involved.

Myth: Dentures are only for elderly patients

Reality: dentures suit anyone missing teeth, whatever the cause - decay, injury, or genetics - regardless of age.
