Who performs the extractions

Extractions are carried out by your dentist or an oral surgeon, not by Paul - a dental prosthetist's role is the denture itself, not the extraction. If you don't already have a dentist for this step, Paul can point you toward next steps.

Two paths after extraction

You have two main options. An immediate denture is made in advance and fitted the same day as your extraction, so you're never without teeth - but it will need a reline later as your gums heal and change shape. Alternatively, you can wait for your gums to fully heal, typically several weeks to a few months, before a conventional denture is made and fitted to your settled gum shape.

Planning ahead with Paul

Healing after extraction

Your gums will change shape noticeably over the weeks and months after extraction as the healing process settles. This is completely normal, and any denture fitted immediately after extraction is expected to need a reline once that healing is complete, usually around 6 to 12 months later.
